How is the indicative integrity risk calculated?

The indicative integrity risk badges are assigned to projects based on combinations of data for the percentage mapped as comprehensively cleared, trends in woody cover in the project’s carbon estimation areas (CEAs) (or project area), and comparisons in cover between the project’s CEAs (or project area) and its buffer. The approach to scoring each of these is detailed in specific responses for each indicator.

Projects receive an indicative "Low Risk" badge if they satisfy either of the following conditions.

Low risk badge condition 1:

  • forest cover is increasing in the project's CEAs [project area] (slope of linear relationship between forest cover and year is >0.25% and slope of relationship for sparse is >-0.05); and
  • forest cover is increasing relative to the project buffer (difference between slopes for forest cover against time in CEAs/project and buffer is >0.25% per year and difference for sparse is >-0.05% per year); and
  • at least 25% of the project’s CEAs [project area] are mapped as previously comprehensively cleared.

Low risk badge condition 2:

  • forest cover is increasing in the project's CEAs [project area]  (slope of linear relationship between forest cover and year is>0.25% and slope of relationship for sparse is > -0.05); and
  • the project's CEAs (project area) are mapped as at least 50% previously comprehensively cleared.

Projects that fail both of the conditions for a Low Risk badge are given a "Moderate Risk" badge if at least one of the following conditions is satisfied.

  • Moderate risk badge condition 1: forest cover is increasing in the project’s CEAs [project area] and is also increasing relative to the buffer and the percentage of the project’s CEAs [project area] mapped as previously comprehensively cleared is at least 10%.
  • Moderate risk badge condition 2: sparse woody cover is increasing in the project’s CEAs [project area] and relative to the buffer and the percentage of the CEAs [project area] mapped as previously comprehensively cleared is at least 10%.
  • Moderate risk badge condition 3: forest cover is increasing in the project’s CEAs [project area] and the percentage of the CEAs [project area] mapped as previously comprehensively cleared is at least 25%.

Projects that do not satisfy either the Low or Moderate Risk badge conditions receive a "High Risk" badge.
